Hi
Thanks for looking at my website.
Photography has been a passion of mine ever since I was a child. I've tended to drop in and out of it over the years and I've been on a bit of a hiatus since 2018. However, hoping to get back into it again in 2021. The majority of the photos on the website cover the period 1998 - 2018. My most productive time being 2002 to 2013, when I was fortunate enough to do it semi-professionally, and I was published in various publications and markets.
My photography is generally concerned with travel, environmental and social issues, selling in various publications and markets around the world. I also run residencies and workshops for young people and community groups using participatory photography / research techniques.
I shoot digitally and still use film occasionally with medium and large format cameras. Equipment used tends to be Pentax, Olympus and Fuji. My current camera of choice is the excellent Fuji x100 series. From carrying numerous camera and lens combos for years, I now tend to prefer a simpler (and much lighter) approach these days, carrying a single camera and lens.
I grew up and currently live in South Shields in the North East of England. For many years I've photographed the beautiful coastline of my home town. These photos can be viewed on one of my Facebook pages: The Geordie Algarve. See the links page of the website to view examples of my work on the web.
Photographic influences include: Mary Ellen Mark, Werner Bischof, Gordon Parks and JeanLoup Sieff.
Qualifications
BA(Hons)Degree in Housing.
MSc Degree in Social Research.
NCFE in Advanced Photography.
Awards
2007 Social Category winner for the Environmental Photographer of the Year Award.
2008 Short listed finalist for the Gordon Parks Photography Award.
2009 Short listed finalist for Travel Photographer of the Year.
More to follow - when I get round to listing them :)
